LAKE FOREST, CA – January 28, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
With 40% of Americans afraid to walk alone at night, a final free public safety Q&A session is scheduled for February 12 to teach preventive defense skills before a major April workshop.
As public anxiety over personal safety reaches its highest point in three decades, a team of nationally recognized security experts is hosting a final, free online Q&A session to empower citizens with preventive defense skills. The session, scheduled for Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM PST, will provide direct access to instructors ahead of their immersive two-day Preventive Defense Workshop in Costa Mesa on April 11-12, 2026.
The initiative comes at a critical time. Recent Gallup polling reveals that 40% of Americans are afraid to walk alone at night near their homes, a figure not seen since 1993. Furthermore, a new high of 63% of U.S. adults describe the nation’s crime problem as “extremely or very serious.” This growing fear exists even as some crime categories show statistical declines, highlighting a significant gap between data and public perception.
“The statistics show a paradox: while some crime rates are down, the fear of crime is skyrocketing. People feel less safe than ever,” said Steve Tarani, a globally recognized expert in personal protection and one of the workshop’s lead instructors. “Our goal is to bridge that gap. We want to replace fear with confidence by teaching practical, preventive skills that anyone can use to recognize and avoid danger before it escalates. This isn’t about fighting; it’s about awareness and prevention.”
The free one-hour Zoom session will allow attendees to ask direct questions to the expert panel, which includes former law enforcement, military specialists, and legal experts in self-defense. The session serves as the last opportunity for the public to receive free training before the comprehensive two-day workshop in April.
“Preventive Defense: Your Q and A Answered” will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM PST. The event will be hosted live via Zoom, is completely free to attend, and registration is available at the link provided. HERE
The urgency for such training extends to professional environments. The AFL-CIO’s 2025 report, “Death on the Job,” notes that the rate of serious workplace violence injuries continues to rise, with over 740,000 incidents occurring annually across various industries. The skills taught in the workshop are designed to be applicable everywhere, from walking in a parking lot to navigating a corporate office.
The full Preventive Defense Workshop on April 11-12 at the Hilton in Costa Mesa is an immersive experience designed to provide a deep dive into situational awareness, threat detection, and de-escalation techniques. Participants will learn to identify pre-threat indicators, manage unknown contacts, and develop a proactive security mindset that can be applied in any environment.
“Every 25.9 seconds, a violent crime occurs in the United States, according to the FBI. That’s a staggering frequency,” added Tarani. “You can’t control when a threat might appear, but you can control how prepared you are to see it coming. That’s what we teach. That’s the power of preventive defense.”
Interested individuals are encouraged to register for the free February 12 Q&A session to gain valuable insights and learn more about the upcoming April workshop.
